Katie’s passion for dance started at a young age and by her teens she had advanced through classical ballet, modern and jazz stopping only to pursue international travel in her late teens. Katie would go on to receive three degrees; BS Primate Behavior & Ecology, BS Anthropology and BA in Psychology from Central Washington University in 2006. After college, Katie had grown tired of the gym workout and on a whim tried her hand with pole dance at Pole for the Soul, Seattle. It became an instant obsession; pole was the whole body workout she had been looking for, not to mention the fun and quick results everyone wants! She excelled through all 12 levels within a year. After a move across country, she sought out a new pole school where she became involved with top pole studios in Boston and Providence, where she trained and instructed. During her three plus years of pole, Katie has trained with top instructors and competitors as well as completing workshops with international and national champions such as Jenyne Butterfly, Marlo Fiskan and Natasha Wang. Katie joined Aerial Arts Fitness in 2012 as our lead instructor and is Xpert Certified.
As the daughter of a former prima ballerina and ballet instructor, AJ was literally born into the world of dance. She progressed through classical ballet, modern, lyrical, and jazz training until her dance career was put on hold in her late teens as the result of a knee injury. It was this predicament that would lead her to try a pole fitness class as a way of continuing to dance but sparing her injured knee the direct impact of jumping. After one class she was hooked, it was the strongest she had ever felt! AJ has since undergone a knee repair that has allowed her to return to ballet, she also practices yoga to complement her pole training. She graduated in 2011 with a BS in Biological Sciences and is in the process of completing her MS in Cell and Molecular Biology at the University of Rhode Island. She is also a nationally licensed EMT.
Alicia started out as a gymnast and dancer from the age of 3. Competing in gymnastics all over New England for 10 years, she focused more on Classical Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, and Lyrical a few years in to college. Discovering pole dance in 2006, she began her journey self taught, and took workshops with national pole stars whenever they were available to further her training. She also has future plans to attend teacher training to continue learning. Alicia loves that she could express herself, hold on to her gymnastics and dance background, and add the occasional sexy! She fused her dance background with flexibility and pole creating her own style of pole dance she calls Polerina.
Alicia has also been training in aerial arts including fabric (tissue/silks), Lyra (aerial hoop), and trapeze for the past 2 years, and looks forward to completing teacher training in these apparatuses very soon!
Angela started poling in 2012 in one of Katie's classes at another studio. She was instantly hooked beyond repair! However, with two small children and a career as a pharmaceutical chemist, there just wasn't time to drive an hour each way to the nearest pole studio. So she and her husband created Aerial Arts Fitness to bring pole fitness to this part of the state and provide a safe and fun atmoshere to continue training. Angela's dance training started in 2010 when she began belly dancing as a creative outlet and a way to increase coordination. She continues to dance and perform with Studio Desmeen (now also located in the Slater Mill). Angela is Xpert certified.
